HUID (Hallmark Unique ID)

A 6-digit alphanumeric code stamped on every hallmarked gold item sold in India since April 2023. Uniquely identifies the piece in BIS's national registry.

The HUID system was introduced by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) to stamp out hallmark fraud. Every 6-digit HUID links a specific piece of jewelry to its purity test certificate in a national database. You can verify a HUID via the BIS Care app. Any gold sold without HUID in 2026 is either smuggled, pre-2023 stock (rare), or fraudulent.`
