This is the question I get asked most. Short answer: plug your budget into the planner on the home page, it handles the math. Long answer below.
The formula
Total spend = (weight ร per-gram rate) + (weight ร per-gram rate ร making%) + (3% GST on the full line)
Rearranging for weight given your budget B:
weight = B รท (rate ร (1 + making%) ร 1.03)
At April 24, 2026 reference rates (โน9,820 per gram 24K):
| Budget | 24K coin (1% mc) | 22K plain (8% mc) | 22K designer (18% mc) |
|---|---|---|---|
| โน5,000 | 0.49 g | 0.56 g | 0.52 g |
| โน10,000 | 0.98 g | 1.11 g | 1.04 g |
| โน25,000 | 2.45 g | 2.78 g | 2.60 g |
| โน50,000 | 4.90 g | 5.55 g | 5.19 g |
| โน1,00,000 | 9.80 g | 11.10 g | 10.38 g |
| โน5,00,000 | 49.02 g | 55.50 g | 51.91 g |
Counter-intuitively, 22K jewelry often gives you more "weight" on paper because the per-gram rate is lower (22K is โน9,002 per gram), but you are paying partly for copper and silver alloys and for craftsmanship you cannot reclaim.
If your actual goal is investment grams, always use 24K coins. If your goal is a ceremonial wearable gift, 22K plain hallmarked jewelry at a small jeweler with making charges under 8% is the cheapest wearable gold you can get.
City rates vary by โน3โ25 per gram. Chennai consistently runs highest; Mumbai and Kolkata run lowest. The planner lets you switch cities to see realistic numbers for your location.
